ALMUDENA ROMERO

Primary Reactions

These camera-less photographs are created by allowing darkroom chemicals to react with light, air, and the silver gelatine layer in photographic papers.

In this series, the photographic paper functions like human skin, recording the exposure to light and the studio environment. The works reflect on my exposure to working spaces and materials over time.

The series is a testament to my growing concern and ambition in 2015 to transition from Victorian processes, such as wet collodion, which use heavy chemicals, to a more environmentally friendly and less harmful plant-based photography.

This work has been shown at the Revela-T Festival in Spain, the Grenze Festival in Italy, Photokina in Germany, and the Brighton Photo Biennial. It has been published in Beneath The Salt photobook by YONA Editions, and in Obsolete and Discontinued, published by Brovira Press. Some of these prints have been acquired by the Gabriela Cendoya-Bergareche Collection.
