Sports Professionals of the Twenty-First Century (2013/12)
Sports professionals of the 21st Century (2012), investigates the body as a passive medium, as a space, where an ideology gets manifested.
Following rationalist programs, Olympic sports professionals develop their bodies to perform at their best. Selected and controlled according to an anthropometrical profile, these professionals train their bodies to achieve maximum of efficiency and productivity.
In this process of quantification and objectification, the body is shaped by its capacity and experience, visually embodying the latter.
In this piece I combine photography and 3D printed sculptures to study a techno-scientific approach to the body. The sculptures are mechanically printed in bioresin by translating the data of sports professionals’ anthropometric profiles in 1/10 scale.
